The VAFRE e-news

From the President

Happy Valentines!

We all have those donors who come to us each year in mysterious ways. Did they buy a raffle ticket? Come to a party? Get asked by a friend? Whatever the reason they gave to our organization, the question we always ask ourselves is, "Will they come back?” The opportunity to turn episodic donors into long term investors is one that can take time and effort, but it is always time well spent. When a ticket buyer or party attendee comes to know and understand more about your mission and impact, they are clearly more likely to continue their support in the future, often in more meaningful ways.

That need for mission focused fundraising is just one of the reasons why I am so looking forward to our National Speaker’s Forumnext month at The University of Richmond. Karin Cox, co-founder of Hartsook, will be speaking about creating sustainable fundraising. As our marketplace continues to get more and more crowded with messages, Karin will present some ideas to strengthen and sustain fundraising to meet our organizations' evolving needs while retaining, growing and diversifying the donor base. The National Speaker Series never fails to bring lots of valuable takeaways, and I hope you are making plans to attend.

Upcoming Programs

Join us on Tuesday, March 8th for our National Speaker's Forum at UR's Jepson Alumni Center. This year's program, Sustainable Fundraising, features Karin Cox of Hartsook leading a discussion and workshop about overall nonprofit sustainability and the significant roles leadership, fundraising and other key elements play in the sustainability of an organization.

Participants will learn ideas to strengthen and sustain fundraising to meet the organization’s evolving needs while retaining, growing and diversifying the donor base. They will learn how to share the importance of being financially sustainable as an organization without diminishing the value and fundamental role of donors.   This session will provide “next move” actions steps and “start tomorrow” strategies that will serve as the foundation of a plan while building donor loyalty, engaging fundraising leadership and nurturing an institutional culture of philanthropy..

Thanks to The Robins Foundation for their sponsorship of this meeting.
